Held on Monday 19th May 2025
Those attending were:
Parish Councillors
Vanessa Hall
Clive Moles
Pat Gibson
Tracey Whitton
And 3 members of the public
The Parish Clerk
M Salmon
District Councillor
Mary Green
1. Vanessa Hall – Parish Council Chair
In her annual report, among many matters covered, Vanessa said it been a quiet year for the Parish. Items mentioned were the ‘Village Dig’ in early October which had breathed life into the community as well as uncovering many artifacts which are still being assimilated; Fosse Green Energy’s proposals for a solar farm, the Lost Village concert, planning applications and the new Scotwater bridge markers. She ended by saying it was a privilege to be the Parish Council ‘Chair’.
2. County Councillor’s Report
Unfortunately Marianne Overton was unable to attend the meeting.
3. District Councillor’s Report
Mary told the meeting that the District Council had held its Annual meeting the previous week and that the Council had remained financially ‘solid’ during the period enabling investment to be made where needed for future growth. She went on to outline the problems encountered by the area’s Internal Drainage Boards where the lack of additional finance, which had been promised by the last government, was becoming cause for concern.
They were now likely to receive £17.5m more rather than £90m which does not bode well for future expenditure on flood defences bearing in mind the appalling flooding in the winter of 2023-24.
4.Church Report
The Church Warden’s report, compiled by John Rowland, , stated that St Peter’s Church is in a very good state of repair and is accessible during the day to visitors whose numbers are considerable. Church services are now led by Rev’d George Parrott who is a retired Priest.
In the wider context of the Withamside United Parish, it will be joining the Swinderby Group and the legal responsibility for the new entity will fall to the Rev’d Andrew Vaughan, currently Vicar for the Swinderby Group.
5.Village Hall Report
Jenny Wright reported that there had been 169 bookings during the year where a deficit had been incurred. During the last 12 months, the Hall’s doors had been replaced. For a variety of reasons, there will be no Village Fete in 2025.
There being no questions from the public, the annual parish meeting was concluded.
