Dear Vanessa

I am dropping a line to all our donors to say thank you again for their financial assistance last year for our two week community excavation on Folly Lane, Norton Disney. The report from the dig is now available and is attached. The Norton Disney Parish Council donations were extremely helpful in making sure we could complete the project including the post excavation work of finds processing and report writing. This report will now be lodged with the Lincolnshire Historic Environment Records so it is available to local authority planners.

We have come a long way in four years of investigation and I think its fair to say the Potter Hill area of the parish is now noted for its significant archaeology.

Last year we uncovered evidence of a Middle Iron Age roundhouse site and industrial activity related to that period.

We also involved 20 volunteers, many of whom were new to field archaeology and held an open day which attracted 55 visitors in four hours.

I am also now starting a series of activities to let the wider community know what was found. The first one being a small exhibition at the village hall in Carlton le Moorland this Saturday (10am to 12pm) when a coffee morning is held. Would be great to hold a similar event in Norton Disney

I did want to ask also whether the council might be prepared to help again with a grant for our 2023 community excavation project at Brills farm? We have raised nearly £4000 of the £6000 needed and I am currently awaiting a response on the donation of a digger for two days. So we are nearly there, but not quite.

Details of the Brills Farm project can be found on our website here: https://nortondisneyhag.org/?page_id=938

Kind regards

Dear Vanessa

I wanted to pass on my thanks again to the parish council for their support for the Norton Disney Big Community Dig. We finished a two week dig on Friday 16th September.

All went well and we are currently awaiting a report being written which can in due course be lodged for posterity with the Lincolnshire Historic Environment Records

I have created a specific web page about the Big Dig and you can see more information about it here.
